Brucella abortus PCR Test

Avoid losses caused by reduced productivity, infertility, and stillbirths by ensuring that your cattle herd is free of Brucella abortus infection!

The Brucella abortus PCR test is a cutting-edge diagnostic tool for detecting the presence of Brucella abortus, a bacterium that causes brucellosis, a highly contagious and economically devastating disease affecting livestock and humans. This sensitive and specific test employs polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technology to amplify and identify the genetic material of the bacterium, providing a rapid and accurate diagnosis. By detecting the DNA of Brucella abortus in blood, milk, or tissue samples, the test enables veterinarians and livestock producers to identify infected animals, implement targeted control measures, and prevent the spread of the disease. With its high degree of accuracy and speed, the Brucella abortus PCR test plays a vital role in protecting animal health, preventing economic losses, and ensuring public safety.

Frequently Asked Questions

Brucellosis is a bacterial disease caused by various Brucella species, which mainly infect cattle, swine, goats, sheep and dogs. Humans generally acquire the disease through direct contact with infected animals, by eating or drinking contaminated animal products or by inhaling airborne agents.

PCR testing is used less frequently than culture or serology testing for the diagnosis of brucellosis, due in part to low sensitivity, but PCR tests may be helpful in genus- and species-level identification.

Culture is the gold standard method for Brucella detection, but the sensitivity of blood culture had a wide range, from 10% to 90%. Real-time PCR is the most commonly used molecular method currently.

The organisms enter via mucous membranes and invade the udder, lymph nodes, and uterus, causing a placentitis, which may be acute or chronic. Abortion or stillbirth occurs 2 weeks to 5 months after initial infection.
